Petrified Forest (EL CALAFATE)

Highlights
It starts from Calafate to the east and  few miles north on Route 40. During this journey you will see the Lago Argentino, Santa Cruz River, the Rio La Leona and a panoramic view of the majestic Andes Mountains including Mount Fitz Roy.

Paran about 15 minutes in the Hotel La Leona (historical site) and continue journey along the south bank of Lake Viedma to reach the slopes of Cerro Los Hornos (Estancia Santa Teresita).

The first peek at the huge depression in the ground where they are petrified logs and begin exploratory walk among fossils, 
This part will be about three hours, including time for lunch.

Along the walk you will see lots of petrified logs lying on the surface, some with a diameter of 1.20 m, testimony of ancient times where the weather was very different from today and allowed the existence of a forest full. 
They have also been uncovered fossils challenge of different types of dinosaurs.

This wind farm is repaired by the Cerro Los Hornos and also because it is a natural depression in the ground. Being in steppe area is very dry and weather conditions in general are very nice.

return to Calafate on the same path with a new stop at La Leona.
