About this tour
South of Tulum lies the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve , one of the great protected natural spaces of the Riviera Maya and an ideal destination for those seeking to discover the landscapes and fauna of the Mexican Caribbean far from the more urbanized areas.
On this Sian Ka'an excursion from Tulum , you'll travel in an air-conditioned van into the heart of the reserve. Once there, the tour continues aboard a speedboat, traversing lagoons, mangrove channels, and coastal wetlands until you reach the areas where the reserve meets the sea.
Access by land involves an approximately 40-minute stretch along a bumpy dirt road. It's all part of the experience of venturing into one of the most natural and least developed areas of the coast.
🚤 Navigation through Sian Ka'an and Boca Paila
On board the boat we will explore the different aquatic environments of the reserve, passing through mangrove forests, lagoons and the Boca Paila area , where the wetlands connect with the Caribbean.
During the boat trip, we'll keep a sharp eye out for the wildlife that roams freely in this ecosystem. With a bit of luck, we might spot crocodiles, manatees, and numerous bird species , both resident and migratory.
Animal observation is done respecting their natural environment, so sightings are not guaranteed .
🐬 Dolphins and sea turtles in the wild
Upon reaching the waters of Ascension Bay , the landscape changes and the open waters of the Caribbean appear.
This area is home to various marine species and, depending on the conditions and the activity of the animals, we may be able to spot dolphins and sea turtles while sailing.
The experience is designed especially for those who enjoy wildlife observation and nature photography , always from a responsible distance and without interfering with the animals.
🤿 Snorkeling on the reef
If sea conditions are favorable, we will make a stop to snorkel in a section of the Mesoamerican Reef , one of the great coral reef systems on the planet.
With the included equipment, you can observe the underwater world of Sian Ka'an and its marine species.
Important: Snorkeling is dependent on weather and sea conditions. For safety reasons, the guide or captain will determine if it is possible to snorkel on the day of the excursion. Snorkeling is not guaranteed.
💦 The Sian Ka'an natural pool
After the sailing, we will arrive at one of the most characteristic places of the excursion: the natural pool .
It is a sandbar surrounded by shallow, crystal-clear Caribbean waters, where you can swim, cool off, and enjoy the scenery .
It is also one of the most special stops to relax after sailing and contemplate the natural surroundings of the reserve.
🏝️ Lunch in Punta Allen
The excursion continues to Punta Allen , a small fishing community located within the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve.
Here we will enjoy a Caribbean-style lunch accompanied by non-alcoholic drinks , before beginning our return to Tulum.
More than just a stopover point, Punta Allen allows you to get to know a local community closely linked to the ecosystem and traditional activities of the reserve.
