Tayrona National Park: Tour to Playa Cristal – Discover the Natural Jewel of Santa Marta, Colombia

About this tour

The day begins early, with a 6:00 AM pick-up from your hotel in Santa Marta or a pre-arranged location. You'll depart the city via the Troncal del Caribe highway towards Tayrona National Natural Park , a journey of approximately 40 minutes to the Palangana sector.

Palangana is one of the main access points to Tayrona National Park and the entrance used to reach Neguanje and Playa Cristal . From Santa Marta, the landscape begins to change: the road enters an area where the tropical dry forest, the Sierra Nevada mountains, and the Caribbean Sea all form part of the same scenery.

Once at the park entrance, we will register and continue by vehicle to Neguanje . The journey will take us through the tropical dry forest, where species adapted to high temperatures and periods of low rainfall predominate. This area is also home to various species of wildlife, so please keep an eye out for the trees and vegetation along the way.

Before arriving in Neguanje, we'll stop at the Seven Waves Lookout , one of the most popular viewpoints in this part of Tayrona National Park. From here, you can admire the coastline, appreciate the power of the sea, and take photos before continuing on to Neguanje Bay.

Upon arrival in Neguanje , we will follow the guide's instructions to board a shared boat to Playa Cristal . The boat ride takes approximately 10 minutes. During the trip, you will be able to appreciate the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains and the protected coastline of the park from the sea.

Free time at Playa Cristal

Upon arriving at Playa Cristal, the most relaxing part of the experience will begin. You'll have free time to enjoy the beach , relax on the sand, swim in designated areas, take photos, or simply admire the scenery.

The waters in this area are part of the protected marine ecosystems of Tayrona National Park, home to coral reefs and a significant diversity of marine life . If sea conditions permit, you can snorkel and observe some of this underwater world. This activity is optional and not included in the tour.

You'll also have time for lunch at one of the restaurants in the area. Lunch and drinks are not included , so you can choose your preferred option during your stay at Playa Cristal.

Return to Santa Marta

Around 2:00 PM we will begin our return from Playa Cristal. We will take the boat again to Neguanje and, once there, we will continue by land transport to the exit of Tayrona National Park.

The return to Santa Marta is scheduled for the afternoon, and arrival at your accommodation will be approximately between 6:00 and 7:00 PM , depending on traffic conditions, sea conditions, and park operations.
