This journey begins with a transfer from Salta to San Francisco , in the heart of the Yungas region of Jujuy , where a walking expedition begins, connecting two completely different ecosystems of northern Argentina . The first encounter is with the mountain rainforest , characterized by its dense vegetation and intense green color , an ideal environment for preparing equipment before starting the trek.
The trek begins in Peña Alta and continues towards San Lucas , a hike that lasts several hours, traversing jungle trails and ravines . As you gain altitude , the landscape gradually transforms. In the following days, the trek continues towards Abra del Potrero and then towards Molulo , following ancient trails that connect different mountain areas, combining challenging sections with more open stretches.
During the trek, nights are spent in diverse mountain environments , alternating between campsites , shelters , and the homes of local residents , allowing for a more immersive experience of the land and its culture . This direct contact also offers the opportunity to learn about the region`s traditions and customs while traversing historical routes used by indigenous communities .
As the route progresses towards Yuto Pampa , the environment becomes increasingly arid and higher in altitude , reaching landscapes typical of the puna . Along this stretch, contact with nature is constant, with opportunities to observe Andean fauna such as condors , guanacos, and vicuñas in increasingly breathtaking settings.
The final day takes you to Tilcara , crossing the highest point of the trek at over 4,000 meters above sea level . This marks the arrival at the Quebrada de Humahuaca , where the arid, high-altitude landscape contrasts sharply with the starting point in the rainforest. The experience concludes with an overnight stay in Tilcara , bringing to a close an expedition that combines nature , culture , and adventure on one of the most comprehensive and incredible treks in northern Argentina .
