The excursion begins with the pickup of passengers in El Peñón, a small strategic town in the Catamarca Puna. From there, we head to the town of Antofagasta de la Sierra, where you can admire the Alumbrera-Antofagasta volcanoes. The plain and the viewpoint of Cerro San Juan offer panoramic views of the town and its surroundings, ideal for photography and contemplation.
We continue towards the Paicuqui viewpoint and the Punilla River, where the landscape is transformed with unique rock formations and a hidden lagoon that surprises with its tranquility. Next, we arrive at the Salar del Hombre Muerto, a vast salt flat of 640 km² at 4,000 meters above sea level. Here, in addition to its natural beauty, you can see turquoise lagoons and lithium and potassium mining activity. The history of the place is enriched by the ruins of the old Incahuasi Mine, a site that combines archaeology and mining, with mineral tunnels, smelting furnaces, and a historical cemetery.
The return journey takes us back through the town of Antofagasta de la Sierra to El Peñón, completing a 300 km journey in approximately 10 hours. This experience combines spectacular landscapes, history, and adventure in the Catamarcan Puna.
