About this tour
The excursion starts early in the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel in El Calafate to head to Los Glaciares National Park (80 km).
An hour later, we will enter the National Park and transfer to the dock located at the "Under the Shadows" port , from where we will embark for a 20-minute navigation through the Rico arm of Lake Argentino , enjoying breathtaking views of the front wall of the Perito Moreno Glacier .
Upon reaching the opposite shore, we will disembark and our bilingual mountain guides will welcome us and take us to a small shelter where they will give us a talk about what we are about to experience, with details of the trek and specifications about how we should behave for our safety.
We will hike to reach the glacier access point, and once there, the guides will give each of us a pair of crampons to put on our footwear; these will facilitate our passage through the ice.
Once the group is ready, we will begin the hike across the glacier . During the first stretch, we will have a breathtaking view of the immense ice plateau.
Throughout the 4-hour hike , we will receive explanations about the flora, fauna, general glaciology of the region and also about the particular phenomenon that occurs in the Perito Moreno Glacier and eventually causes its rupture.
During the hike, we'll stop at a sheltered spot and have lunch on the ice. We'll take this opportunity to rest and recharge for the second part of the activity, during which we'll admire the blue lagoons that form within the glacier and viewpoints offering panoramic views of the National Park.
Back on dry land, we will begin our descent to the port to board the boat and sail back.
At this stage of the tour, we'll have free time to walk along the walkways built in front of the Perito Moreno Glacier and visit the viewpoints that offer incredible vistas. It's the perfect spot to take amazing photos!
In the afternoon, we will take the bus back to the hotels in El Calafate.
