About this tour
Our tour starts from the meeting point at 4:00 pm, we will leave Las Grutas behind to head west. In the first 20 kilometers we will skirt the coast of the Golfo San Matías, we will know the history of the Spa , the botanical species of the steppe and the legend of the railway , which makes La Argentina today has one of the eight most exotic trains in the world: the Patagonian Train.
Just when we are near West San Antonio , On the horizon a white silhouette will begin to appear, it is Alpat (Alcalis de la Patagonia), the only sodium carbonate factory in Argentina and one of the two in Latin America. We will visit the facilities of the mining factory that currently harvests sodium chloride, salt, under the open sky. We will learn about the history of salt and its harvesting and packaging system for both industrial use and home consumption.
After the visit we will return to the route, on the way we will meet trucks loaded with tons of salt that go to the factory, while we in the opposite direction we will go in search of the Salinas del Gualicho . After traveling on asphalt and a long gravel road, we will find an infinite blanket of salt, the views from the car will begin to be impressive, we will stop right in the heart of Gualicho, the guide will invite us to take off our shoes to feel the salt under our feet and enjoy the horizon that is lost in the distance with the reflection of the clouds over the salt flat, without a doubt It will be a surreal landscape.
When the sky changes color and the night begins to arrive, we will celebrate the moment with a nice toast , no other place in Argentina offers a sky so rich in stars, planets and constellations like the one in the Salinas del Gualicho. The guide will help us to recognize the main celestial bodies that dominate the sky: Mars, Venus, Sirius, Orion and the Southern Cross , and will tell us the "creepy stories" of Gualicho, its curses and legends.
Around 10pm: 00hs we will return to the caves, closing this fantastic adventure full of salt and stories.
