Itinerary

Day 1

TOMORROW: Early in the morning, all guests will board the Tucano Motor Yacht and depart upriver on the Rio Negro. We will navigate through the world's largest river island system, the Anavilhanas Archipelago. From the observation deck, we will admire the magnificent vegetation that stretches along the riverbanks.

AFTERNOON: By mid-afternoon, the boat will have left the inhabited areas behind and entered a wild region. Both banks will be covered by dense rainforest. While we can't predict what we'll see, we're likely to spot pink river dolphins, primates, and a wide variety of exotic birds. We'll undoubtedly enjoy magnificent views of the rainforest and its spectacular trees. In the late afternoon, we'll board the boats to head out in search of wildlife. We might also have the opportunity to swim in some of the cleanest and most refreshing waters in the world.

Day 2

TOMORROW: Early in the morning, we'll split into small groups to explore the rainforest in our motorboats or kayaks, each group accompanied by a naturalist guide. We should hear and possibly see howler monkeys, as well as enjoy the morning calls of toucans. After breakfast, we'll take a hike through the rainforest, which will allow us to begin understanding Amazonian ecology.

AFTERNOON: Around midday, we'll return to the boat for lunch and continue sailing, perhaps stopping for a swim. In the late afternoon, we'll explore the jungle again in our boats and listen to the chorus of birds, frogs, and howler monkeys at sunset.

Day 3

TOMORROW: This morning we'll take an early excursion to explore the jungle as it awakens. We'll keep our eyes peeled for sloths, which we often see on most of our trips. We'll return for breakfast, and afterward, we'll go on a jungle hike or a boat excursion.

AFTERNOON: The M/Y Tucano will sail during the middle of the day, and we will make an afternoon stop for an excursion. Tonight, the ship may continue sailing a little longer while we admire the star-filled night sky.

Day 4

TOMORROW: After our morning excursions, the M/Y Tucano will sail along the banks covered by dense rainforest, searching for wildlife. We may stop to visit a settler's house, built on an open plot of land in the middle of the jungle.

AFTERNOON: In the early afternoon, we'll be near the extraordinary Jaueperi River. We'll explore its banks in search of some of the fascinating creatures found only in this unique environment. Weather permitting, we'll take a nighttime excursion to observe nocturnal animals.

Day 5

TOMORROW: Today we'll head southeast to begin our journey up the Amazon River. We'll continue exploring by boat and on foot through the rainforest. Weather and water depth permitting, we'll visit areas rarely seen by tourists.

AFTERNOON: Tonight, the M/Y Tucano will sail downriver and explore the depths of the rainforest along this magnificent river.

Day 6

TOMORROW: We'll start the day with an early morning excursion in search of animals beginning their activity, followed by a full Brazilian breakfast. Afterward, we'll make our final foray into the jungle.

AFTERNOON: In the mid-afternoon, we will begin navigating downstream. We expect to reach the Encontro das Águas (Meeting of the Waters) by the end of the day, an impressive, several-kilometer-long confluence where two of the world's largest rivers, the Amazon and the Rio Negro, meet, forming a turbulent whirlpool. Here, the dark waters of the Rio Negro flow alongside the murky brown waters of the Amazon.

At dusk, the M/Y Tucano will once again turn its bow up the Rio Negro and head towards our overnight anchorage, north of the city of Manaus. As we pass Manaus, we will marvel at the scale of one of the world's largest and most dynamic port cities, located more than a thousand miles offshore.

Tonight we will enjoy a farewell dinner and prepare to leave early the next morning.

Day 7

TOMORROW: Early in the morning, after enjoying a hearty breakfast, all guests will disembark from the M/Y Tucano.

Good health is required. Guests can enjoy a very pleasant trip simply by staying aboard the M/Y Tucano and participating in the boat excursions. However, those participating in the jungle hikes must be able to walk comfortably for two hours or more at a time.

Please note that for all excursions or transfers involving boats, port authorities require a passenger list with full names, dates of birth, and nationalities. No vessel may depart Manaus without this list.

During the rainy season (May to July) and the dry season (October to December), occasional flooding or severe drought may occur, which could lead some lodges to reschedule or replace certain activities and excursions. For example, during the rainy season, hikes may only be done by boat or may be replaced with other alternatives. During the dry season, longer hikes may be necessary, with detours from riverbanks to lodges or other areas, including the use of bridges over mud puddles or springs.

Verano a bordo, buena comida y precio justo

Smooth Ports, Lively Evenings, Happy Retirees

Embarkation was impressively orderly: Tangol’s instructions had us at the terminal early, and our bags reached the cabin before lunch. Disembarkation was just as smooth, with color-coded tags and staff guiding us straight to our transfer. On board, we loved the evening jazz trio, trivia after breakfast, and a surprisingly lively pasta-making class.
