The dry season, generally between June and September, can offer clearer skies for excursions and exploring nearby natural attractions. Even so, it's recommended to pack light clothing, a jacket, and sunscreen, as the weather can change quickly.
Among Ambato's main tourist attractions are the Quinta de Juan León Mera, the Juan Montalvo House and Mausoleum, Montalvo Park, the Cathedral, and the Atocha-La Liria Botanical Garden. You can also explore the local markets to discover the region's typical cuisine and fruits. Nearby highlights include the Bellavista viewpoint, the parish of Pinllo, and the town of Quisapincha, renowned for its leather goods. Ambato is also an ideal base for day trips to Baños de Agua Santa, where you'll find waterfalls, hot springs, adventure sports, and stunning Andean landscapes.
Ambato enjoys a temperate Andean climate, with generally moderate temperatures during the day and cooler nights. Due to its high altitude, around 2,500 meters above sea level, it's important to be prepared for sudden temperature changes and possible rain. For your trip, pack comfortable walking clothes, a light jacket or raincoat, long pants, non-slip shoes, and sunscreen. A hat, sunglasses, and a water bottle are also recommended.
