Our Polo Day begins with all our travellers being picked up directly from their hotels, followed by a 45 minute journey to the polo ranch.
When we arrive, the team will meet with us to tell us all about the sport and their horses. The trainer will talk us through how horses are chosen for the sport, their lineage and how they’re trained. We’ll then see a demonstration of what they can do whilst enjoying traditional empanadas and wine. By the end of this you’ll have learned about the game itself, the rules to follow, the equipment used by the horse and player and the different techniques used.
Next, you’ll see professional players having a proper 4-chukka (periods of 7 minutes) game, on the backs of over 30 horses. Our bilingual guides narrate the highlights of the game so that even complete beginners can understand everything. Between each chukka, we’ll visit the stables to see how the horses are looked after, how they’re prepped for the game and their diet.
After all of this we’ll have worked up an appetite, and no trip would be complete without a traditional asado! This will include a large selection of meats and Argentinian wines to give you the chance to try some of our local delicacies. A vegetarian option is also available.
After a couple of hours relaxing in the pool or exploring the countryside, you can take your first polo lesson. You don’t need any prior experience nor even know how to get on a horse: we provide equipment and training for any level of experience. In your first lesson you’ll learn how to get on the horse, hold the mallet and hit the ball - you’ll feel like a professional in no time! At the end of the day you’ll all be able to play a mini game of polo to show off some of your new skills.
We’ll bring this exciting and unique tour to a close by dropping everyone back off at their hotels in Buenos Aires.
