Punta Arenas is one of the southernmost cities in the world and was founded in 1848 as a military fortress, to reinforce Chilean claims of sovereignty over the Strait of Magellan. It has a sub polar climate, with short summers and long winters, and is characterized as a very windy city. From here we can go to Magdalena Island to see penguins or visit Fort Bulnes, a reconstruction of the first fort created in the area, in which the pioneers who inhabited the region lived
