Once in the private reserve, we will begin the trekking along a little-traveled path surrounded by fascinating Lengas forests, we will advance through a gentle but rocky terrain until we reach the Devil`s Lagoon located at 770 meters above sea level, from this point we will be able to enjoy the unusual view of the northern wall of Mount Fitz Roy and the Cagliero refuge.
After two hours of travel and already outside the premises of the Los Huemules Reserve we will find the Via Ferrata, where we will take a brief break to receive the necessary equipment and instructions. The via ferratas are rock sections with little difficulty that have previously been prepared with artificial steps and steel cables. The guides will put on your harness and explain how to use the equipment to move autonomously and safely. .
The journey on the Via Ferrata will be entertaining and as we skirt the lagoon, it will allow us to gain height and obtain fantastic views of the snow-capped mountains. After an hour and a half of travel we will reach the viewpoint of the Cagliero Glacier (950 meters above sea level) from that point we will be able to observe the accumulation of snow that falls on the glacier from the Cerros Neumayer, Cagliero and Loma del Diablo.
From the Mirador a short walk will take us to the front of the Glacier and the “Vivac Cagliero ”, a small base armed with domes where we will pause for lunch, rest and receive the equipment and instructions to walk on the glacier. The average stay on the Cagliero Glacier will be 3 hours, depending on the weather conditions and the physical level of the group we will be able to do an ice climbing initiation.
In the afternoon and after the exciting walk on the ice of the glacier, we will return to the "Vivac Cagliero", and with a hot drink we will enjoy nature and the beautiful view. The descent will be along the same path and crossing a sector of the Devil`s Lagoon through a “Tibetan Bridge” (hanging bridge) and after 14km traveled in the day we will arrive back to the starting point of the trek, where the vehicle will be waiting for us to take us to El Chaltén.
